Baillie supports newly regenerated playpark in Reay Published on 3rd July 2017

Baillie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund is delighted to announce that it has granted Reay Recreational Regeneration £20,000 towards the regeneration of the playpark in Reay, which was officially opened on Friday 30th June.

Peter Macdonald, Chairman of the Baillie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund Board, said: “The Board were very pleased to contribute £20,000 towards this important project, and it’s fantastic to see the end result of this contribution. Bringing benefits to the local community is what the Fund is all about, and we’re delighted to have played a part in ensuring that the children of Reay have a safe, modern place to play.”

Melanie Sutherland, Reay Recreational Regeneration, said: “We are delighted with the support from Baillie which has helped us reach completion of this project. The play park is already being well used and is a fantastic resource for the local community.”

The Fund was set up to disburse funds from Baillie Wind Farm Ltd, which is contributing £100,000 (RPI linked) a year to be distributed to the benefit of West Caithness. While the Fund is predominantly aimed at supporting societies, clubs, groups, small businesses and individuals in the West Caithness Community Council area, it is also pleased to accept applications from sporting or educational groups based in other community council areas in Caithness and North Sutherland and past awards have included Caithness Rugby Club, Thurso Squash, Tennis and Racket Ball Club, Thurso Golf Club, 1st Thurso Rangers, Thurso Sea Cadets and a number of schools throughout the area to name but a few.

The Fund’s directors meet quarterly to consider applications, most recently on 27 April 2017 when a number of new applications were considered.  The deadline for the applications to be considered at the next meeting is 17 July 2017.  Full details of upcoming meetings, along with guidelines for applying, can be found on the how to apply page of the website.
