Next round of Baillie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund closing soon Published on 24th September 2020

The Baillie Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund (BWFCBF) would like to remind potential applicants that its next round of funding closes soon, with an application deadline of 5pm on Monday 28 September 2020.

The Fund is open for applications through its regular funding stream, which is open to residents, businesses and community organisations within the West Caithness Community Council area, as well as to educational and sporting organisations throughout Caithness.

Over the past year, the Fund has awarded over £80,000 in grants to help community groups deliver vital services, help businesses expand, and support residents with the installation of micro-generation. Among the good causes supported have been Reay Parent Council, Scrabster Community Association, village halls across the West Caithness area, and the Caithness Mental Health Support Group.

The Fund also continues to seek expressions of interest from groups across Caithness which require additional support or funding to enable them to carry out support activities for the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. This funding is intended to be as fast and flexible as possible, as the Fund recognises that the needs of communities and the organisations supporting them are changing on a regular basis at this time.

Previous successful applicants have included Caithness Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), which was awarded over £5,000 towards the costs of personal protective equipment and changes to their premises to enable staff to return to supporting clients face-to-face, both at the office and through home visits.

The Fund also previously awarded a grant of £350 to Thurso Football Academy to support their efforts to distribute footballs and water bottles to local children as part of the Keep Scotland Active initiative. The funding also supported the Academy to print a training drills booklet to allow children aged 3-8 to play various themed games with parents in their gardens.
